Holiday Safety Tips

Staying safe this holiday season

It’s the holiday season, a time to relax and enjoy yourself with family and friends. To make the most of this time off, here are some tips to ensure you and our family stay as safe as possible:

Before leaving on your holiday, ensure your home is burglarproof. Test your alarm system. Make sure the rubbish is collected, especially after Christmas - you don’t want that flat screen TV box lying around. Ask your neighbour to collect your mail while you are away and if you can get a friend to house sit, even better. Check that your household insurance is up to date and don’t forget to switch off the geyser.

Before embarking on your road trip, make sure you get a good night’s rest. Don’t overload the car and remember to check the tyre pressure. While on the road - buckle up, use a hands-free kit and take regular breaks. Don’t speed - the beach isn’t going anywhere.

It’s summertime, which means applying some sun sense. Stay out of the sun between 11am-3pm. Use sunscreen SPF 30+ and make sure it’s waterproof. Reapply between swims. Prevent sunstroke by staying hydrated with plenty of water. And for water sense of another kind: stay between the lifeguard flags on the beach and ensure that children always have adult supervision around the pool or in the sea.
