Cell C Sharks
The 2017 runners-up, the Cell C Sharks have won the Currie Cup trophy seven times - including three times under the name Natal. Established in 1890, they struggled in the early stages of the competition, it took the Durban based side 66 years to play in their first Currie Cup final and a century to claim the trophy. The Cell C Sharks have been runners-up on 10 occasions and the last time they were triumphant was in 2013 with a 33-19 victory against DHL Western Province at Newlands.
Xerox Golden Lions
Xerox Golden Lions won their first Currie Cup title in 1922 and went on to claim the trophy in 1939, three consecutive years in the 50s and again in 1972.The Xerox Golden Lions had the good fortune to have George Moir Christie, known as Kitch Christie, take over the reigns as head coach in 1992. Under the guidance of Christie and captained by legendary Springbok Francois Pienaar the side again lifted the trophy in 1993 and 1994.
